"A Call to Arms" Update
You may recall, from the July issue, that the
American Legion Hall is in desperate need of an air conditioning system.
It is nearly time for "a call to Arms", an artistic collaboration will
soon begin. Because so many have expressed an interest in helping, a
decision has been made to open up the project to every American Veteran
who considers himself or herself artistically inclined. If you would
like to contribute to the Fine Art Painting of the American Legion that
will become a fundraising benefit for the historic Hall built in 1903,
please phone or e-mail me, and to assist in any way at all,
please contact Commander Gene Kindrick at 786-5356. With the talent of
our American veteran artists, and contributions from all who are
concerned, that 100th birthday gift of cool summer days is just around
the corner!
*Atlantic Beacon Gallery - Currently featuring the
colorful and whimsical original oil and acrylic paintings (and
reproduction prints) of well known local artist, Patti Wynn. The
Gallery, representing more that 30 local and regional artists is well
known for an exquisite selection of fine art and fine gifts. Open from
10 am - 6 pm daily (closed Tuesdays) , located at 1606 Butler Ave.,
(downtown) Tybee - across from Arby’s. For more info. contact the
gallery at 912 786-9386.
*PEASEBLOSSUM at Tybee Oaks - Look for some "Fall"
seasonal PeasePlaques and all the usual whimsicals. Fun, fun, fun!
*Nautilus Studio Gallery of Tybee Island opens its
second location on Labor Day Weekend. The new location, in the Shops at
Tybee Oaks at 1213 E. Highway 80 on Tybee will highlight the marine and
coastal art of Linda Lindeborg along with a wonderful array of exclusive
signature items for the coastal home. Linda and fellow artist, Melissa
Schneider have put together the collection that makes Nautilus — Chic on
the Beach, including painted furniture; pillows, pails and such;
nostalgic beach chic
accessories; hand embroidered linens; sailor’s
valentines; etched glass and carvings; beach inspired ceramics; and bath
and body products made just for Nautilus. Part of the charm of the shop
is its location in a converted garage on the Tybee Oaks property which
was built in the 1930s with wood from Fort Screven. Now the old building
holds treasures for the coastal home with a fresh (and just a little
shabby) feeling. On the afternoon of September 22nd, the new location
will host the first in a series of trunk shows and demonstrations with
Lynn Harris (daughter of Tybee’s own Sissy Levy), bead artist. Open
Wednesday to Saturday from 10 AM until 6 PM and Sunday from 10 AM until
4 PM. Call Nautilus at 786-4462 for more information.
*Tybee Art Association’s Lighthouse Gallery -
will
celebrate new works by member artists on Fri. Sept. 13th. The opening
reception will be from 7 - 9 pm. in its Hwy 80 at Campbell Ave location.
The public is invited and welcome to attend. For more info, please
contact the gallery at 786-5920.
