...American Legion and the city of Tybee announce...Gene& Wanda Kindrick are looking for 1,000 good Tybee folks to

show-up for America on September 11th in Memorial Park at 7pm. it is called Patriot Day, A Day To Remember and most worthy of your attendance. Commander Kindrick of our American Legion Post 154 announces a big deal for all of us looking for a way to understand this day and participate in something local and meaningful.

here is what is on the docket....a Color Guard in WW1 uniforms. A ceremonial wreath and news person Sonny Dixon from WTOC-TV to emcee the night. music, St. Michael’s Student Choir, and an invocation by Father Fitzpatrick. hot dogs cooked by our MRS, and our Tybee Fire Department ringing bells. familes are urged to bring a covered dish and chairs. soft drinks will be provided. there is a magic moment here , folks...

a time to circle...

we will all have our chance to be with Tybee’s Ted&Lynn Lynch. Ted lost his brother, Terry in the attack on the Pentagon. Tybee donations for the Lynch’s are being accepted at Mark&Debbie Brady Robinson’s Atlantic Beacon Gallery.

there will be a presentation of the Blue Star Flag to our town representing all families with members in active military duty. we can all gather here and reflect.. more is being planned as the Breeze goes to press. again, worth your time.

...Tybee’s Steve Hugo got railroaded and he wasn’t even on his day job at CSX. Steve is working part time with Parking Services this summer and found a ticket on his properly decaled car near Rascals. imagine! he immediately made a dance floor announcement of his bust known to barstoolers at Rascals in a kind of you-won’t believe-what-just-happened-to-me speech. crowd roared and later Parking Services quickly voided the citation.

must be the summer heat, folks...

...and the heat is off City Hall with the anticipated august announcement that the missing $50-g’s is in the found department. that was the money in last year’s Water & Sewer budget that was lost to an accounting error. a lot of noise about this since early summer. well, folks, the word is the auditors identified the source of the error and safeguards are to be put in place to prevent any future wrongful entries. happy ending. the big news is the information of a drainage task force with an oversight committee to make monthly reports on flooding area projects. most needed. council members are also meeting with Tybee business folks to work on parking access. we all know that is necessary.

...and speaking about business on Tybee, a herd of cows has moved into the basement of the Captain’s Quarters ...make that Ben & Jerry’s famous ice cream cows logo claiming the finest ice cream and frozen yogurt! of course that is right across the street from Sweet Dreams Ice Cream Shoppe. holy slurp! ice cream wars? Tybrisa Street is also hosting a combo breakfast and chicken joint and a new bakery called Tybee Treats that features retail and wholesale products plus cappuccinos! The Bentley family out of Kent, Ohio are the owners promising ya’ll great smells! the Street is cookin’. maybe you didn’t know that one of the major ingredients in ice cream is air or the stuff would be rock solid. yes, the the most popular flavor is still vanilla, and Americans eat the most ice cream in world. Omaha, Nebraska still claims that their folks eat more ice cream per person than any of us.

...bids on building an eatery on the Pier are said to be ready to be taken this month as Tybee and Chatham County continue talks on a deal involving our city taking over. the hush-hush is still on and that has to end with the bidding process. could be a money making deal by early next year with the blessing of Council. Island home. " Memories, that’s why, " says Ms. Dara. Pastor Johnson headed the congregation. the Church stood in the parking lot of where the American Legion now stands. fire destroyed the structure, not the spirit of church members. Ms. Dara also features pictures of Bennie’s Riptide and print ads for Savannah Beach and the old Pier.

..Old Glory is back at 18th&The Strand thanks to Tybee’s Stacye Smith and Lannie Jarrel! you might remember it was ripped off earlier this summer behind Stacye’s corner property and the bad guys were caught and punished. Carl Young and Lannie built the backing for the giant 6 by 10 flag and it was re-hoisted during a rainstorm. Folks say it reminds them of the famous picture of U.S. Marines planting the flag on Iwo Jima in WW2. thanks. we are all placed again.

..a new novel with a Tybee tie is in the works tentatively called A Voice For The Cosmos. the author Jossie Bustos comes to Tybee after a government career with the Justice Department, DEA, and the Inspector General in Washington, DC. the character is drawn to South America on a New Age Search. good thing she got a stay on Tybee. many adventures. Jossie is working with Hampton Roads Publishing.

...as the Breeze reported, the interest in bringing back the APBA races next year is hot. the movers and shakers met in Savannah to make recommendations that include antique boat races, bleachers on the beach with big screen tv’s, and talking plans for a CAT shuttle from Savannah. still looks like the 4th of July holiday is targeted for 2003.  "bigger and better,"says Tybee’s Captain Mike Scarbrough who shepherded the world class event in July. Tybee&Savannah will buddy-up again to try and triple the crowd. the Coast Guard and the Waterfront Association are all for the sequel that includes more entertainment and boat races on the River. Remember to watch this summer’s boataganza on September 7th at 10am on the pay for view Fox Speed Channel. the pictures from the choppers have to be awesome hovering so close to the super cat and super vee racers just 1,800 feet off Tybee!

...and more television exposure for Tybee’s Mistriss of Percussion, Ms. Sylvia Gott. WSAV-TV/Channel 3 taped her twice doing the Ms. Sylvia thing at Booth One in Doc’s Bar. the news crews got shots of her on the famous Sylvia Scooter as well as playing her instruments backing the People’s Maestro, Charlie Sherrill. our 93-year old musical legend continues to draw the electronic and pencil press. as for Ms. Sylvia, she loves her gig 5 nights a week as much as we love enjoying her artistry and companionship...Hi Ho Sylvia!

...Danny Woodard is a soulful harmonica player who loves to jam especially with Randy "Hatman"Smith and Charlie Sherrill. call Danny " a professional sit-in" who can slay you in your seat when he harps his version of Desperado by the Eagles. then there is his blues and country sound. At Fannie’s, he moved folks with Meet Me with Your Black Drawers On. ask for that when you see him with Randy and Charlie. the man makes magic. Woodard, that’s him. and Johnny O’Neill was not far from the stage to sing The Lady is a Tramp in a way that only Johnny O’ can pull off. folks love him. don’t tell him though. Tell Chicago Bob Brandell his New York, New York crooning buddy and pool table wizard. this duo of Tybee talent spar for your ahs and it takes their " manager", Jake Smith, to keep the peace. maybe it is because he is a ringer for Robert Preston. about their performance at Fannie’s, Jake said " they’ve done better...the heat and humidity got the boys...and the two hours at Rascals before." good luck Jake.

...favorite summer drinks this season ....first at Rascals chosen by Breeze readers as the number one bar, the ever intriguing Cocktail Mistress Tessa Winchester reports White Russians win the day. Daiquiris, says Tina Griffin late of Kansas City, are what her customers order most at Skippers while at Cafe Loco, frozen drinks are the most asked for with Margaritas topping the list at Joel Solomon’s fun house!
