…how ‘bout them Dawgs!
want to make a Tybee statement with the
team kicking major butt? might be the ideal time to
see Tim Shaw at the Yard Art-GA location at Sundance
Square and get yourself a state of Georgia re-enforced
concrete Dawg for your front yard! Tim reports he has five
on hand for November and can order more for adoption. his
Dawgs are lookin’ good, too. "people who love yard art
really love yard art," says Tim and he has close to 500 pieces
on hand including religious statues, mermaids, pelicans, ocean birds,
and the ever popular since THE BOOK, Bird Girl. most of
his stone design work comes from artisans in the north Georgia
Mountains.
…speaking about THE BOOK, a rare photo
from Tybee Chef Espy Geissler’s files taken inside Jim
William’s Savannah mansion just three days after he died. Espy
accompanied an appraiser looking to buy all the antiques and art in
the house that was completely shutdown to the public by William’s
sister just days after their private tour. This photo shows
the official emblem on the bridal carriage of
Napoleon&Josephine!
…contemporary history in the making now
with the tearing down of the Beachside Colony Motel scheduled for
January, 2003. Trey Clark says he has close to 40 rooms of
furniture for sale including pictures, headboards, mattresses,
and marble sinks. call him at 657-5277 for your private
showing.
…at the Grill, Cliff Meads wants to make
history next Halloween. he is excited about creating a Haunted
House out of the back bar building for a group he would select
to raise money for Tybee’s kids. Cliff says this is the
perfect location to stage something neat. more on this, folks, as his
idea develops.
…a lot of excitement about Johnny
Hosti’s song, THE EAGLE WILL FLY AGAIN. our Tybee Police
Dispatcher is getting interest from the national American Legion
to back his fine, patriotic CD for national play. it was featured at
our 9/11 Memorial, and on WRHQ Radio. he has distributed
over 100 copies locally and describes his effort "as the only way to get
my emotions out "after the attack. 50% of the money earned
from sales would go to the NYPD Survivor Fund. the big news here
is that Johnny has A SAD NEW YORK LULLABY ready to add to
the CD accompanied by local voices and musicians. he is also
working with fire department unions for support on the national
distribution launch. Johnny worked as a Savannah Firefighter for
17 years and has 8 years with our Police Force as a civilian
employee. The 54 year old singer-songwriter sees Christmas
as the ideal time to get everyone together to record a first rate
production. this man has a big heart and the talent to make his dream
happen!
…and Darryl Wise is a local music talent
you need to know now and for futures. he has a CD out called MANY
MILES that he wrote, sang, and played all the instruments. folks see
him as a renaissance man able to work as a fine wood worker and
produce music at will. he is a veteran of 20 bands and in love with
music since he was 13. "Music is a passion. I love it," he says.
To prove that, Mr. Wise has 4 more CD’s in the making.
…word on the Pier Project that the Department of
Natural Resources is in the process of issuing permits for bids to
build an eatery. this long awaited announcement means we could be
hearing how City Council feels about security and maintenance
issues to
make this happen. Mayor Walter Parker has been
in contact with Billy Hair at Chatham County headquarters
since talk of this plan surfaced last spring. while that goes on,
Councilperson Jason Buelterman and concerned citizens are sizing up
alternative sights to stage music events. mentioned, the city property
area near the North Beach Grill where the Savannah Symphony
entertained in October and Jaycee Park.
…kudos to Tybee’s Audio Czar, Paul Mazo.
he’s making good on his promise to aid the YMCA in donating and
setting up a dance music stereo system that can be accessed for
use by disc jockeys and bands.it will take two days to install.
…"We’ve let them win 4 games. We won two and this
year we’re going to kill them." that from fearless Jiggs Watson
on the upcoming Toilet Bowl between the BEACH BUMS and
the PIGS at Jaycee Park on the Sunday before Thanksgiving,
November 24th. Last year, the Police handcuffed the BUMS
by 20 runs. The softball game has a 1-ish pm start with food and cold
drinks. donations are accepted for St.Michael’s Grade School. Tybee
legend David Ring will be the umpire behind the plate with Walter
Mitchell calling the bases. The PIGS actually practice for
this contest on the field. The BUMS will get their swings in at
Foster’s, the Grill, and Doc’s Bar.
…also on the 24th, the 3rd annual MUTT STRUT
in a gated area of Jaycee Park. it will be a busy event with
no charge for entry and 250 dogs expected to show up for
portraits, washes, races, and a wet tee shirt contest! tickets will have
to be purchased for the specialty events. vets and technicians
will be attending. good guy Bobby Chu will match each dollar
raised earmarked for the Teen Center. would this location
be the ideal place for a future doggie walk?
...finally, the 50th wedding anniversary for
Tybee’s Bas and Ann Jackson celebrated in Atlanta recently
with 100 friends and neighbors and all the couple’s 8 children in
attendance! Bas is known to us as the noted, daunting captain of
the " QUEST" that he and his darlin’bride lived on for 12
years. Ann is the internationally loved oil on canvas
artist with her own gallery in Atlanta. the big doings
were held at daughter Patricia Emick’s home where the clan
gathered for the first time in many years. Ann paints here on
Tybee. her Ann Jackson Gallery in Atlanta is the exclusive
carrier in Georgia for the Dr.Seuss collection of books and silk
screens. congratulations from the Breeze, and many more years
together on Tybee.
…enjoy your Thanksgiving gatherings.
Probably will see you soon…
Just Shootin’ the Breeze…
