March 10th

The Tybee Arts Association will hold its first Salon meeting for 2003. The Salon is not for business but just for fun and artistic fellowship. Newly elected officers, Ann Monaghan, Don Ernst, Brucie Westerman and Beverly Foust will be on hand. The theme for the evening will be "Back to the Beat" and everyone is encouraged to come as we were in the days of the coffeehouse and the beatnik. Artists are invited to bring a new work to share, writers are encouraged to bring something to read to the group and the public is invited to enjoy the evening. We’ll be at the old Tybee School on Monday, March 10th beginning at 7 PM. Be there or be square.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Tybee - 2pm. Starts at St. Michaels Catholic Church and continues down Butler Ave. to Tybrisa Street.

March 22nd

The Tybee Arts Association is sponsoring the third annual Serendipity Studio Tour on March 22nd from 2 PM until 6 PM. The event, privately sponsored in past years, will be the first event of the year for the arts organization which is undergoing a renewal of its vision and mission. Newly elected officers for the Arts Association promise a revitalized group in support of the arts and are pleased to takeover the sponsorship of the Serendipities this year.

The tour will include stops at the working studios and galleries of some of Tybee’s favorites. Mary Ingalls will host Sally Bostwick’s paintings in her stained glass studio. Margaret Dulohery and Samantha Claar will be in their home studios with newly completed work. The Atlantic Beacon Gallery and Hall of Frames, Dragonfly Studio and the newly opened Gallery by the Sea will display the works of their gallery artists. And at the island’s growing little art colony, the Shops at Tybee Oaks, Linda Lindeborg and Melissa Schneider will be at Nautilus Chic on the Beach, Andy Donato will be in his winter studio with a preview of his upcoming show in Toronto, Jeri Gale will be working on paper maché at her newly opened Very Jeri (where you’ll also find pottery by Pam Martin), Ric Liudahl will be carving in his studio, and Becky Schwartz will display her handmade sea shell ornaments at Shell Art Gift Shop.

The Atlantic Beacon Gallery will be featuring the work of the highly talented and acclaimed local artist, Sally Bostwick during the month of March. The Atlantic Beacon Gallery featuring over 35 local artists, and Hall of Frames custom frame shop, is located at 1606 Butler Ave. (downtown) Tybee - Open from 10:00 - 6:00 daily, closed Tuesdays. The Tybee Map

The Tybee Island map is entering the artistic phase of production. Nearly all of the Island businesses have purchased advertising space on the Island Map. Artist, Debbie Brady Robinson has been hired to complete the artwork. "Advertisers have requested that the map include everything from logos and buildings, to "tongue and cheek" depiction’s of Island characters", said Debbie. "It should ultimately be a ‘fun’ project encompassing lots of Island color!" The goal is to have delivery of the maps to all advertisers by Memorial Day. "KISS A PIG"

Did you know? Chatham County, including Savannah and Tybee, raises more money for the Diabetes Association than any other city or county in the entire Nation! That is an important distinction; and certainly a record that we want to keep. This year’s KISS-A-PIG candidate for Tybee Island is none other than Belinda Flanigan of the Crab Shack. Dedicated Tybee volunteers will be recruiting Islanders to assist with the campaign, as well as requesting donations for the Silent Auction . Lots of events and hard work will culminate with the big bash competition that will take place Saturday, May 17th at the Savannah International Trade & Convention center. The 2003 major sponsor for the event is Sprint Communications. Your contributions are tax deductible and for a wonderful cause. Please give generously.
