Sand Fleas

While on patrol in the area of Hwy 80, officers came across a male laying on the side of the road. It appeared that the subject had fallen off his bicycle. The subject was unresponsive and laying in a pool of urine. While trying to wake the subject he began to talk and responded with obscene verbal responses. A strong smell of alcohol was apparent upon his breath and person. Eyes were bloodshot, speech severely slurred and unsteady on his feet to the point of almost falling down. While talking with officers, he began to urinate himself again. He then announced that he was leaving and began to walk away, while officers told him he was not allowed to leave just yet. He walked about 50 feet and then turned down a Nature Foot Trail close by. He began to run and officers could hear him running through the marsh and water. Officers heard a big splash then and nothing else. After no verbal response, officers walked down the trail into the marsh. They found the suspect hiding in a tidal creek up against the marsh. He then told officers that if they wanted him, they would have to come and get him out. Officers pulled him from the creek and after a brief struggle, the suspect was placed in handcuffs and lead from the marsh. Collapsing to the ground, the suspect then refused to get up and stated that they would have to drag him out. EMS personnel, who were also on the scene, assisted officers in picking the suspect up and escorted him out of the woods. The suspect tried pulling away and running off again.
Once finally in custody, in the patrol unit, officers searched his person for contraband. Finding a ceramic smoking device and a small amount of marijuana. The suspect was treated by the EMS for minor injuries and placed under arrest for Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct, Possession of Marijuana, (less than an ounce), Possession of a Drug Related object, and Obstruction of an Officer.

Officers were dispatched to a large fight in one of the Public Parking Lots. Officers from Tybee and the GBI responded to the scene. Because of the large crowd and the threat to Public Safety Personnel, the offenders were sprayed with Department Issued Spray. This action caused the suspects to stop fighting and allowed the officers involved to arrest the 7 offenders and charged them with Disorderly conduct.

In another incident, officers placed on top of one of the Hotels in the area observed a large group of males shouting and closing in on a female subject. These males were taking pictures of the female. She turned and posed with them, letting these males fondle and grope her person, while one male exposed her breasts to the other male photographers. This behavior continued until the crowd got to large and the female subject sat back into a vehicle parked next to her. Officers had her exit the vehicle and placed her under arrest.

In a quiet residential area of the island, officers were dispatched to a loud music complaint. After failed attempts to locate and establish the ownership of the vehicle in question, a wrecker was dispatched to tow the vehicle until ownership could be established. At this time the owner approached, claiming the vehicle. The GBI agents advised this owner she had to vacate the area. Another subject approached the vehicles owner and stated," we'll just meet you around the corner." The agent stated that she also would need to vacate the area. This subject started mouthing off, becoming loud and argumentative. The agent advised her again that she needed to leave the area, at this time she made an indecent gesture with her middle finger towards the GBI agent and officers. The Tybee officers then placed her under arrest for Disorderly Conduct, to preserve the peace in a tense environment.
